Changes to SBS’s WorldWatch schedule – Ukraine
January 2008
Due to circumstances beyond SBS’s control, the Ukrainian TV news bulletin will be dropped from the network’s WorldWatch schedule as of this Sunday, January 27, 2008.
World Watch is a unique service provided by SBS Television. It broadcasts news bulletins from around the world, in over 20 languages, and since mid-1995 the schedule has included a news bulletin from the Ukraine, which aired once a week on a Sunday morning.
SBS has decided to drop the bulletin because delivery of it has been unreliable for some time.
“While this is unfortunate, SBS cannot regularly schedule a bulletin when it is supplied in a sporadic manner,” Manager of SBS’s International News Service, Claus Hannekum said.
“In the past, the Ukrainian news bulletins have been delivered late and, for the last six weeks, SBS hasn’t received any bulletins at all.
“SBS regrets the situation but repeated appeals for improvement have not resulted in any positive, sustainable changes.”
SBS continually monitors data from sources such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics to ensure that its in-language services remain relevant to Australians. The WorldWatch service reflects major languages spoken in Australian homes.
SBS Radio broadcasts a program in Ukrainian which includes news from both Australia and the Ukraine. For information on how to listen, visit www.sbs.com.au and click on radio.
