Statement regarding The Point: Australia Decides program, 14 October 2023

SBS and NITV’s coverage of the referendum has explored and challenged arguments across the spectrum of the debate all year, providing a constructive contribution to this important national conversation. The Point (broadcast 14 October 2023) continued to do so through the program’s live results coverage, which featured authentic, considered and at times impassioned discussion on the impact of Australia’s decision, and included a broad range of perspectives.

As part of that program, hosts Narelda Jacobs and John Paul Janke moderated a robust debate between two guests on live television in a sincere effort to ensure that it remained fact based, constructive, and a safe space for discussion.
