Corporate social responsibility

As a multicultural and Indigenous broadcaster for all Australians, SBS aims to be a positive example within the community through a range of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives including the SBS Foundation, supporting organisations in raising awareness of issues aligned to the SBS Charter.

Each year, the SBS Foundation supports not-for-profit and charitable organisations by providing free advertising airtime on SBS channels and platforms.

Since 2009, SBS has allocated millions of dollars-worth of free airtime to charities and community organisations that have an alignment with the SBS Charter. This includes organisations with both a national campaign focus as well as charities from regional areas, across a broad range of sectors, such as health, disability, education, the arts, sport, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and multicultural Australia.

This donated airtime promotes the activities of and contributes to fundraising efforts for a multitude of Australian organisations, connecting our diverse audiences with important community service announcements and information.

SBS works together with Foundation partners to maximise the value of their allotted airtime and to explore opportunities aligned with broader SBS community engagement initiatives.

Beyond the SBS Foundation, SBS employees also engage with and support charities through staff volunteering initiatives, fundraising drives, events and staff network groups.

SBS programs will often necessitate consultation or partnerships with charities, not-for-profit organisations or subject-area specialists. SBS fosters partnerships with these bodies to ensure best-practice and evidence-based approaches to research, development, consultation, and providing reliable information for our audiences via a range of platforms.

We are currently reviewing our SBS Foundation partnerships process and making improvements on how to apply. If you would like to be kept informed, please email foundation@sbs.com.au with permission to include your contact details on our community service announcement (CSA) database and we’ll keep you up to date with the application process.
