SBS inspires all Australians to explore, respect and celebrate our diverse world, and in doing so, contributes to a cohesive society.
Australia is tremendously diverse. Its population spans many different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, generations, gender identities, religions and experiences. Australians identify with more than 270 ancestries, and 22 per cent of Australians speak a language other than English at home.*
As the nation’s diversity increases, the need for fostering social inclusion continues to grow.
SBS has a vital role to play.
For more than 45 years, SBS has reflected and explored the evolving diversity of Australia, investing in initiatives to deepen its connections with communities, sharing their stories and giving a voice to those often unheard, with the aim of increasing understanding and respect of the differences that make up society today.
Its content, services and engagement with communities help enable all Australians to feel included and to contribute to Australia’s prosperity.
SBS is a truly distinctive network, showcasing multicultural, multilingual and First Nations stories otherwise untold in the Australian media.
