In 2011 there were 233,390 Vietnamese speakers in Australia, representing 1.1% of the entire population. Most Vietnamese speakers were born in Vietnam (63.6%), followed by Australia (31.1%). The 2011 distribution by state showed New South Wales had the largest number (71,838) followed by Victoria (68,296), Queensland (16,269) and Western Australia (12,715).
